The 1.27-mile segment of the trail through downtown Orleans opened to the public in December 2024.

As construction continues, the segment of the trail through Mitchell will be the second section opened to the public. It is expected that the Mitchell section will open in late January 2025.

The Monon South Trail through Mitchell and Orleans will run approximately 3.6 miles in length. In these sections, just under 1-mile of the trail will be made up of crushed aggregate material and the rest will be paved. ​Below are photos of construction progress in these areas.
