The 1.27-mile segment of the trail through downtown Orleans opened to the public in December 2024.

In January of 2025, the approximately 2.4 miles of trail through Mitchell was second section opened to the public.

​

The Monon South Trail sections in Mitchell and Orleans are not connected in Phase 1A. The Orleans trail segment is paved, and in Mitchell, approximately 1.6 miles of the trail segment is paved while the rest is made of crushed aggregate material.
