The first section of Phase 1A of the trail scheduled to be completed is through Mitchell and Orleans. In Orleans, asphalt was laid down in mid-late August. Following the completion of asphalt being laid down, this section of the trail is undergoing minor construction in preparation for public use in late 2024. In Mitchell, the laying down of asphalt began in September 2024 continued throughout the month. This section of trail is expected to open to the public in late 2024.

The Monon South Trail through Mitchell and Orleans will run approximately 3.6 miles in length. In these sections, just under 1-mile of the trail will be made up of crushed aggregate material and the rest will be paved.
